About Me
Hi! I'm Leslie, writer and publisher of the Fresh-Picked Seattle, a website covering the food, free and nature/outdoor events in the Puget Sound area.
I was born in New Jersey, grew up in Arizona, and went to college in New York. I have a BFA in film and television production from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
I moved back to AZ after making an independent short film after college, mainly because I was broke from making an independent short after college. I was not quite sure I wanted to do that again, so I spent a few years in AZ trying to figure what, exactly, I did want to do.
I moved to Seattle on a whim in 2005. The transition to living in the Pacific Northwest seemed to be the catalyst I needed to get back into writing. I started writing about about television and pop culture for BuddyTV and other sites, and blogging about food at the now-defunct Three-Bowls.com.
Now I spend most of my creative energy on Fresh-Picked Seattle. The site covers food, free, and nature/outdoor events. There's a comprehensive calendar, weekly and theme event round-ups, slideshows from events around the Sound, event reports, recipes, and other features.
You can also find me on Citysearch as a City Scout offering recommendations for yet even more stuff to do around Seattle.
Since 2009, I've been on a steady program of learning about wild food and botany. I've taught beginning plant identification for the Seattle Free School. While I am no expert by any means, if you are curious about how to start learning about wild food, ethnobotany and/or plain ol' botany, feel free to contact me!
See the My Stuff page for the various places you can find me around the internet, and you can see my blog on this site for a variety of things (travel, complaints about language) including the Doctrina Botanica category, where I document things related to my learning about wild food and botany.
Thanks for visiting! Please contact me if you have any questions.
